Guwahati: World Hepatitis Day was observed in Kamrup Metropolitan district on Monday, in line with statewide awareness efforts. The central programme was held at Satgaon Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandir and was inaugurated by Dr. Lakshmanan S., Mission Director of the National Health Mission (NHM), Assam.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Lakshmanan highlighted that hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver and stressed the importance of early testing and timely vaccination to prevent the disease. He urged all pregnant women to undergo Hepatitis B testing and instructed healthcare workers to ensure that every newborn receives the Hepatitis B vaccine within 24 hours of birth.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including NHM Assam’s Officer on Special Duty Lakhimi Dutta, Kamrup Metro Joint Director of Health Services Dr. Apurba Krishna Sharma, and others. Hospital staff and NHM officials from district and block levels were also present.
