TEZPUR: World Hepatitis Day was observed on Saturday at Kanaklata Civil Hospital, Tezpur, under the chairmanship of Joint Director of Health Services (JDHS), Sonitpur, who presided over the meeting.

The programme was attended by a wide range of key stakeholders, including the District Nodal Officer (DNO), NVHCP (District National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme) Sonitpur, the Superintendent of KCH, the secretary of the Indian Red Cross Society, the in-charges of ICTC, Blood Bank, Dialysis Unit, and DPHL (District Public Health Laboratory), as well as representatives from ASACS (The Assam State AIDS Control Society), the Rehabilitation Centre, the District Programme Manager (DPM), NHM and nursing students from the district. The district National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme team also participated actively in the event.

The inaugural speech was delivered by the DNO, NVHCP, who outlined the aim and objectives of World Hepatitis Day and emphasized the importance of early diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.

The Superintendent of KCH further elaborated on the significance of the day, focusing on the public health impact of viral hepatitis and the need for community-level awareness.

The Secretary of the Red Cross Society expressed a strong interest in collaborating with the health department to organize joint awareness and screening camps in the near future. The District Programme Manager (DPM) of Sonitpur spoke about the critical importance of administering the hepatitis birth dose vaccine to all newborns, highlighting its role in preventing vertical transmission of hepatitis B.

In his presidential address, JDHS Sonitpur discussed the theme of this year’s World Hepatitis Day, detailed the various routes of hepatitis transmission, and urged everyone to be vigilant and proactive in preventing the spread of the disease.
