GUWAHATI: Guwahati Jal Board has announced a temporary suspension of water supply across all areas under its jurisdiction from March 2 to March 5 for the second phase of the robotic survey in the city. The household water supply will be interrupted during the four days, authorities informed on Thursday.

The announcement came hours after a water pipeline burst in the Pandu area, causing significant damage in the nearby localities. Following the incident, the Guwahati Metropolitan Drinking Water & Sewerage Board (GMDW&SB) issued the notice regarding the survey.

"Water supply will be interrupted across all areas under Guwahati Jal Board's jurisdiction from March 2 to March 5, owing to the continuation of the robotic survey of our clear water pumping main pipeline. The first phase of the same has already been completed," the board stated.

Authorities informed that an examination will be conducted to find out the cause of the recent pipeline burst. Earlier in January, a similar incident occurred in the Kharghuli area, damaging several shops and vehicles.

The first phase of the robotic survey took place from February 12 to 15, aimed at detecting weaknesses in the water pipeline. During the Assam Assembly session on February 19, Urban Affairs Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah revealed that at least 12 weak points were detected in the first phase.

The board has provided two helpline numbers to assist residents during the disruption – 6003920846 and 6002478263.
