Hit-and-run case: Driver arrested for killing cop in Guwahati city

GUWAHATI: In a significant breakthrough, the Basistha Police has apprehended Bisesh Singhal, the driver responsible for the tragic hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of senior police officer, Birinchi Kumar Das, in Guwahati’s Lalmati area on Thursday. Singhal was arrested from the Christian Basti late at night.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Thursday when a speeding Swift car, bearing registration number AS 01 AY 9101, lost control and crashed into Das’ scooter, and the cop lost his life. The driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle.

Das, the Officer-In-Charge (OC) of Ghagrapar Police Station in Nalbari, was on a month-long leave when the accident occurred.
