Guwahati: In solemn remembrance of the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs of Kargil war, Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya led the state in laying floral wreath at the State War Memorial at Dighalipukhuri on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, commemorating the 26th anniversary of India’s historic victory of the nation in the war in 1999.

Paying tributes to the martyrs on the occasion, the Governor remembered the valiant Indian Armed Forces, stating that the country is always grateful to the men in uniform who by virtue of their enabled the country to experience this victory.

Reflecting on the significance of the Kargil War, the Governor highlighted the extreme conditions under which Indian soldiers fought and triumphed. “They braved sub-zero temperatures, treacherous terrain, and relentless enemy fire, yet remained resolute. Operation Vijay stands as a testimony to their indomitable spirit and unparalleled bravery,” he said.

Governor Acharya recalled the heroism of martyrs such as Captain Vikram Batra, Captain Jintu Gogoi and others whose sacrifices continue to inspire generations. “Their sacrifices are not just tales of war, but enduring legacies of patriotism, commitment, and service,” he added. He also referred to the recent Operation Sindoor under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi which once again showcased the readiness and resilience of India’s armed forces. “The courage of our soldiers is not just historic it is ongoing, and a reminder that the strength of the nation lies in the selfless service of its defenders.”

Marking the solemnity of the day, the Governor called upon citizens—especially the youth—to imbibe the values exemplified by the armed forces. “Kargil Vijay Diwas is not merely a remembrance of war—it is a call to live by the ideals of courage, unity, and national service. “Our brave soldiers fought not just for land, but for the dignity and sovereignty of a democratic India,” stated a press release.
