GUWAHATI: Lions International, District 322G, celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) today at the ground of the Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Gopinath Nagar in Guwahati in association with the National Career Service Centre for Differently Abled (NCSC).

NCSC is an organization under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALMCO), under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India and Special Olympics Bharat Assam, an organization for children and adults with Intellectual and Physical Disabilities.

In the inaugural ceremony attended by District Governor Lion BS Rathod, Mr Venkatesh K from NSCS, Mr Mukesh Mishra from ALMCO, Dr Anjana Goswami from Special Olympics, Mr N H Mazumdar Senior Principal ITI, VDG-II Lion Seema Goenka, 1st Lady Lekha Rathod and a galaxy of past district governors, district leaders, presidents of various clubs, Lion members, Leos. Lion Sanjay Sangeneria project chairman welcomed all the dignitaries, guests and participants.

Mr Rathod informed me that Lions International is always eager to organize a such programme which is one of the best services to mankind. He said it is the duty of each one of us to support the differently able section of society to make them feel part of the mainstream.

More than 300 special children and differently-abled persons along with their guardians and attendants attended the programme. The Special Olympics Bharat, Assam organized event sports activities for Special Children and differently-abled persons. At the end of the program, the Lions distributed prizes, gifts and medals.

The organizers distributed various appliances including 16 sewing machines, six welding machines, five appliance repairing tool kits, one computer set etc., to make the differently-abled persons financially self-dependent, a press release said.
