PALASHBARI: A tragic incident occurred in Rani, near Guwahati, when a wild elephant attacked and killed a 45-year-old man, Prafulla Rabha, on Sunday. The victim, a resident of Belguri village in Rani, was on his way to the paddy fields with his son Bhabesh Rabha when the elephant emerged from the Meghalaya hills and trampled them.
Bhabesh Rabha barely survived the attack and was rushed to Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) along with his father. Unfortunately, Prafulla Rabha was declared dead by the doctors.
This incident has sparked panic among the residents of Rani, who have been suffering from human-elephant conflict for over two decades. Despite repeated incidents, the local authorities have failed to address the issue effectively. The MLA of the area, Ramendra Narayan Kalita, has been criticized for not taking adequate measures to mitigate the human-elephant conflict, despite being in power for several years.
