Medical Cyclotron installed at State Cancer Institute, Gauhati Medical College

GUWAHATI: The Medical Cyclotron installed at the State Cancer Institute, Gauhati Medical College is operational after approval granted by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board. The Cyclotron is capable of producing Radiopharmaceuticals and one of the major production is 18 F Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) which is essential for carrying out PET Scan procedure. The FDG product is not only catering to the need of State Cancer Institute but also is being supplied to three PET Scan centres in the State. The Medical Cyclotron in State Cancer Institute, Gauhati Medical College is the only Cyclotron in North East India. So far FDG is being supplied mostly by private centres from outside Assam and installation of Cyclotron in Government Institute is a major landmark in the field of Nuclear Medicine for the region.
