GUWAHATI: National Health Mission (NHM), Assam organized Swasthya Manthan-5, a two-day review-cum-orientation workshop from December 28 to December 29 at Assam Water Centre, Guwahati. Dr M S Lakshmi Priya, Mission Director - NHM, Assam, Dr. Nilmadhab Das, Director of Health Services, Dr. Manoj Kumar Choudhury, ED, NHM Assam, Dr. Ashok Roy, Director RRC-NE, Pankaj Chamuah, OSD NHM, Assam State Programme officials and others were present at the meeting.

The key highlights of Swasthya Manthan - 5 are:

 Review of KOBOTOOL BOX - During the meeting the monitoring system for home visits by frontline workers, CHO and other health officials have been reviewed and necessary guidelines are provided in the review. HCM video message - A video message on proper antenatal care on teenage marriage, pregnancy, birth waiting room and buddy pair by Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister, Assam was shown.

 Pneumonia Video Message and alert towards winter diseases - Considering the winter season and the possibility of the high incidence of pneumonia cases in children during this season all districts are directed to take extra care of children by creating awareness among the public. The video on danger signs in children was also shown and discussed.

Further, a district-wise review was held on the health performance of each district, and discussions were held on how to improve the health status of children and mothers. It is expected to determine any further course correction that may be required by the districts and any handholding required to improve the health indicators.

Dr MS Lakshmi Priya, along with state officials and the UNDP team, also did the state launch of a few health initiatives for Assam: Swasthya Sewa Abhiyan Portal - A portal has been developed with the technical support from UNDP for better monitoring and follow-up of cases identified in Swasthya Sewa Abhiyan - Special Health Camps. It is worth mentioning that after the successful implementation of the pilot phase, Swasthya Sewa Abhiyan was formally launched by Keshab Mahanta, Health Minister, Assam on 23rd September 2022 during the State launch of the project at Capital State Dispensary, Kamrup Metropolitan district.

Facility Based New Born Care (FBNC) was launched to reduce the Neonatal Mortality Rate (NMR). It is expected that it will ensure decongestion in the medical college and district hospital SNCUs and also improve the quality of care in the SNCUs. Also, necessary support and handholding shall be provided by the medical college SNCUs.

In the review meeting, the best performers from the State, District and Development Partner were also felicitated by Dr M S Lakshmi Priya along with state officials for their hard work and dedication towards improving the health system in their respective districts, a press release said.
