New development in child abuse case of doctor-couple Dr. Walliul Islam and Dr. Sangeeta Datta

GUWAHATI: A new development has come to light in the ongoing investigation of a child abuse case involving the doctor-couple Dr. Walliul Islam and Dr. Sangeeta Datta. The couple allegedly harassed and sexually assaulted two children.

According to a source, Utpala Basu is a patient coordinator at various IVF centres for surrogate mothers and childless couples. And she has been engaged in this activity since 2017. Also to be mentioned is that before the ‘altruistic surrogacy’ law was passed in 2021, commercial surrogacy was done legally in IVF centres.

Meanwhile, Dr. Walliul Islam has completed his police remand and is being sent to judicial custody.
