Child abuse by a doctor couple: Hefty amount of money involved

GUWAHATI: Dr Sangeeta Datta, Utpala Basu, and the two Asha workers were grilled at the All Women Police Station, Panbazar, on Saturday in the ongoing investigation of a child abuse case involving the doctor couple Dr Sangeeta Datta and Dr Walliul Islam. The couple allegedly harassed and sexually assaulted two children. After the interrogation, both Asha workers were released.

According to a police source, Utpala Basu mentioned in her confession that a hefty amount of money was involved in the buying and selling of the two kids. However, nothing has been confirmed yet. The girl child was bought from Barpeta, and the boy is from a Nepali community. Both the kids were claimed to be twins by Sangeeta, but they were not.

The identity of the mother of the two children has not been revealed. It is not known from whom the kids were bought, but police will continue to investigate on the basis of this information. Further, the police have intensified their investigation.
