GUWAHATI: A panel discussion on 'After COP 27 Climate Summit, What's Next for South Asia?' will be organized at Cotton University on December 16 next to discuss how the climate summit's focus on climate justice, climate financing and debt-for-climate swaps will impact the Northeastern part of South Asia.

This event will be organized jointly by the Centre for Environment and Climate Action Foundation (CECAF), in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Climate Research Centre (ICRC) of Cotton University and Assam Climate Change Management Society (ACCMS), Government of Assam, informed a press release.

The panelists of the event will includes Prof Arup Kumar Misra (Chairman of the Pollution Control Board, Assam), Rizwan Uz Zaman (Technical Consultant of the Assam Climate Change Management Society), Prof Sarat Phukan (Professor, Department of Geological Sciences of Gauhati University), Dr Santonu Goswami (Associate professor, Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability of Azim Premji University) and Rituraj Phukan (founder, Indigenous People's Climate Justice Forum). The session will be moderated by Dr Rahul Mahanta (Associate Professor, Department of Physics of Cotton University).

In the panel discussion, the outcomes of the 27th UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) will be discussed, which are of particular interest to South Asian countries, as many in the region are especially vulnerable to climate change and climate-related disasters.
