Guwahati: A major pipeline damage near Sainik Bhawan on Friday led to a significant water supply disruption across multiple localities in Guwahati, affecting thousands of residents under the Amiya Nagar reservoir zone.

In an official statement shared on social media platform ‘X’, the Guwahati Jal Board (GJB) attributed the damage to utility-related work carried out by another department, though it did not disclose further details or identify the department involved.

As a result, water supply has been suspended in key areas including Piyoli Phukan Nagar, Chandmari, Rajgarh, Gandhi Basti, Ashram Road, Bora Service, Lachit Nagar, Rehabari, Ulubari, Kumarpara, Athgaon, and Birubari.

The GJB informed that urgent repair work is underway and normal water supply is expected to resume by Saturday, July 5, if rectification efforts proceed without delays. The Board also apologized for the inconvenience caused and assured that every effort is being made to restore services promptly.

However, the absence of any alternative water supply arrangement has left affected residents scrambling to cope with the disruption. The incident has triggered widespread public dissatisfaction, with citizens demanding better inter-departmental coordination to prevent such disruptions in essential services in the future.
