Police held four for gang-rape at Hatigaon area

GUWAHATI: Four persons were arrested on Friday for allegedly gang-raping a woman at the Hatigaon area here.

Police sources identified the arrested persons as Rafique Ali, Ashraful Amin, Mukul Islam and Nayan Muddin Ali.

The sources said that the 37-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped in a house located at the Neelkamal Path in Hatigaon on Wednesday after she was invited by one of the accused for lunch.

The victim lodged a complaint with the police on Thursday.

The sources said that the victim, who earlier worked at a beauty parlour in the city, had joined a private call centre company on April 18. O Wednesday, she was invited by Ashraful Amin, Mukul Islam and Nayan Muddin Ali for lunch, after which they allegedly gang-raped her.

The owner of the company, Rafique Ali, has also been arrested in connection with the case, the sources said.

Meanwhile, the four arrested persons have claimed that they have been framed and that they are innocent.
