GUWAHATI: The Pollution Control Board Assam (PCBA) organized a meeting with industry representatives from the Byrnihat area to discuss strategies for reducing environmental pollution in the region. The meeting aimed to ensure effective implementation of the Action Plan for Abatement of Environmental Pollution in the Byrnihat Industrial Cluster, focusing on improving air quality. Chairman of PCBA, Dr Arup Kumar Misra, urged industries to prioritize environmental management and address factors like dust emission and waste management. He stressed the need for a balance between environmental protection and development.
Member Secretary Gokul Bhuyan highlighted the importance of augmenting dust suppression measures, proper waste management, and improving housekeeping practices in industries.
Bhuyan emphasized the need for a coordination committee among industries to initiate environmental protection activities, such as community-level tree plantation.
The Central Laboratory, PCBA, and Regional Office Guwahati made presentations on the action plan for the Byrnihat area and environmental management practices for industries. Industry representatives discussed non-industrial pollution sources, including hill cutting and vehicular emissions. The meeting concluded with the chairman reiterating the need for environmental protection measures and sustainable development.
