GUWAHATI: Massive preparations are underway for the mega "Jhumair Binandiya," a Jhumur dance recital slated for February 24, 2025, at Sarusajai in Guwahati. The mega event is aimed at making a world record, besides introducing the Jhumair Dance of the Tea Tribes of Assam to the rest of the world.

In order to make the grand Jhumair Dance recital a success like the mega Bihu Dance recital last year, Minister of Cultural Affairs Bimal Borah had a meeting with folk artistes, cultural experts, dance mentors, and others associated with the culture of Tea Tribes yesterday. Top officials from the Department of Cultural Affairs, Assam State Transport Corporation, and other associated departments were also present at the meeting.

As many as 7,500 Jhumair dancers from the Brahmaputra and the Barak valleys will take part in the mega event. As of now, some of the dance mentors have been trained. The second phase of the training of the remaining dance mentors will be from January 6-10, 2025. Thereafter, the department will hold Jhumair Dance workshops in the state LACs (Legislative Assembly Constituencies) from January 20 to 23, 2025. The selection of 7,500 dancers for the mega event will be in the workshops. The online registration of the dancers will be from January 27 to February 2, 2025. On a particular day from February 3 to 13, 2025, the dancers will perform at their district level. The department will bring the dancers to Guwahati on February 20. The dancers will rehearse from February 21 to the first half of February 23 at Sarusajai. The very next day, i.e., on February 24, 2025, the dancers will present the final dance recital for a world record.
