GUWAHATI: Miffed at non-implementation of the Chief Minister's directive, the members of the Asom Rajyik Prathamik Shikshak Sanmilani (ARPSS) has decided to gherao the Chief Minister's residence in the city on January 22, 2021. 

In a statement issued to the media on Sunday, Sanmilani president Jibon Chandra Bora and general secretary Ratul Chandra Goswami said that on January 22 next they would stay away from all administrative and finiancial duties and get into a huddle at Latasil Playground from where they would go to the Chief Minister's residence in a procession.

"In a meeting with the representatives of the Sanmilani on December 30, 2019 the Chief directed the Education and Finance departments to create headmasters' posts in primary schools and repay the grade pay deducted from graduate primaryteachers. However, eleven months have already elapsed, but the Chief Minister's directive has not been implemented as yet. This has led us to gherao the Chief Minister's residence. The decision was taken at our executive committee meeting held on Sunday," the statement said.

The statement further said, "From January 22, 2021 all senior teachers acting as headmasters will stay away from attending to any official and financial duties other than teaching. Our agitation will continue till the posts for headmasters are created and the deprived salaries of graduate teachers are repaid."
