GUWAHATI: Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi has written to Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma urging him to investigate allegations made by him (the CM) regarding the appointment of his wife, Dr. Gitashree Tamuly, and the acquisition of his residential property in Nizarapar, Chandmari.
In his letter, Gogoi referred to Sarma's statement made in the Assam Legislative Assembly on February 20 during his speech on the Vote of Thanks to the Governor's address. MLA Gogoi expressed strong displeasure over the CM's remarks that raised a question over the appointment of the MLA's wife in B. Barooah College, overtaking meritorious candidates.
Gogoi demanded an official investigation into the matter to determine whether any irregularities had occurred. Furthermore, he added that until the investigation concludes, his wife would voluntarily abstain from her job to uphold the integrity of the institution.
Additionally, Gogoi also addressed allegations regarding the ownership of his residence in Nizarapar, Chandmari. The Chief Minister allegedly asked the MLA if he should need to say how he acquired a residential property at Chandmari in Guwahati. In response, MLA Gogoi clarified that the house was legally purchased by his wife from the late Bhadra Borah and refuted any wrongdoing. He urged the Chief Minister to investigate the matter and stated that if proven guilty, he would willingly hand over the property to the Assam government.
