Record number of saplings planted for voter awareness

GUWAHATI: In a unique way Bongaigaon District created a national record on Friday. Under the special initiative of District Election Officer Dr. M.S. Lakshmi Priya 32,000 saplings were planted in Kakoijana Reserved Forest in Bongaigaon district within a record time of 32 minutes. This initiative was undertaken as a part of Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme going on for awareness generation amongst the voters for maximum participation in the Assembly Election-2021. With the spirit and the theme-"Grow with Democracy", more than 1,500 voters participated in the plantation drive to create awareness for greater electoral participation. The plantation started at 11:00 am and all 32,000 saplings were planted within 32 minutes. The adjudicator from India Book of Records Jitendra Jain, present during the event, certified the record for "All India Record of Maximum Saplings Planted at a Single Site for Voter Awareness."

Indigenous species including fruit bearing trees like Amlakhi, Bohera, Jam, Gamari, Koroi, Silikha, Bhatghila, Khasia Badam, Poma, Modhuriam, Leteku, Kothal, Arjun, Urium, Ajar, Bokul, Debdaru, Ashok, Moz, Amora, Koros, Kanchan, Jalpai, Teteli, Ponial, Sotiona which are also a source of food for Golden Langur, the official election Mascot of Bongaigaon Election District were planted in the reserve forest which is also a natural habitat for Golden Langur.

Chief Electoral Officer, Assam extended all necessary support on this great initiative.

State SVEEP Icons actor Kopil Bora, singer Anindita Paul and Para-cyclist Rakesh Banik and Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Dimple Baruah also attended the event and motivated everyone to vote with same enthusiasm in the upcoming third phase election scheduled on April 6, stated a release.
