GUWAHATI: Renowned Assamese playback singer Gayatri Hazarika passed away on Friday afternoon at the age of 44 following a prolonged battle with cancer. She breathed her last at around 2:15 pm at a private hospital in Guwahati, where she had been receiving intensive medical care.
According to hospital authorities, Hazarika had been admitted three days ago and was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Thursday after her condition deteriorated. Despite medical efforts, the singer succumbed to her illness on Friday, leaving behind a legacy that has shaped modern Assamese music.
Gayatri Hazarika rose to prominence with her soul-stirring rendition of "Xora Pate Pate Phagun Naame," an iconic and award-winning track that continues to resonate with listeners across generations. Known for her emotive voice and versatility, she went on to lend her voice to numerous Assamese films, including Manoj Vaishya's Krodh, Jatin Bora's Ratnakar, and Zubeen Garg's Kanchanjanga.
