AZARA: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, a five-time MLA from Jalukbari since 2001, is now eyeing a sixth consecutive victory from the constituency — and his campaign machinery is leaving nothing to chance.
BJP leaders and workers have ramped up their efforts to not just win the seat, but to secure it by a record margin. Alliance partner Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has also thrown its full weight behind the campaign.

The ruling coalition's joint campaign in Jalukbari is being led by AGP MLA from West Guwahati, Ramendra Narayan Kalita, at the Chief Minister's personal request. BJP MLA Hemanga Thakuria from Palasbari is also extending full support in line with party directives.
The coordinated effort reflects the importance both parties are placing on delivering a strong result for Dr. Sarma in what would be a landmark sixth term.
Since the nomination process wrapped up, the Chief Minister's wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma has emerged as one of the most active faces of the campaign on the ground.
Accompanied by party leaders and workers, she has been conducting outreach programmes across every corner of the constituency — covering areas both day and night.
On Wednesday, she campaigned across several localities under the Jalukbari Police Station jurisdiction, including Pandu, Maligaon, and North Jalukbari. She also visited multiple election offices, meeting with party workers and supporters to keep campaign energy high ahead of polling day.
The campaign was attended by BJP Jalukbari Mandal president Piyal Shankar Dey, advisor Dwijen Lahkar, Yuva Morcha president Shyamal Bhattacharya, Guwahati Municipal Corporation councillors from the constituency, and office bearers of various party wings.
Speaking briefly to the media, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma stressed that Dr. Sarma has remained committed to the development of Jalukbari throughout his tenure as MLA.
"The primary goal is to ensure maximum voter participation on April 9 and to secure a decisive mandate in his favour," she said, adding that she was confident the Chief Minister would surpass all previous victory margins and register a landslide win.
This election also brings a structural change to the constituency. Five wards and five gram panchayats from the erstwhile West Guwahati constituency have been newly merged into the Jalukbari Legislative Assembly Constituency.
Riniki Bhuyan Sarma has been specifically targeting these newly added areas in her outreach drive over the past several days, looking to build early rapport with voters who are entering the Jalukbari fold for the first time.
