Road safety awareness workshop to be held today in Guwahati

 GUWAHATI: The Transport and Enforcement Department has already conducted surprise raids on school buses in various places, and teams of traffic inspectors have visited various schools to check whether the school buses are complying with the Supreme Court directives. This has been said by Assistant Transport Commissioner and DTO (Additional Charge) Kamrup (M), Gautam Das.

The principals of various schools will hold a safety awareness workshop on June 17 at 2 p.m. at the Sri Sri Madhavdev International Hall of Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra. The workshop will discuss in detail whether the important guidelines on road safety are being implemented properly by the students. The recent Jalukbari accident that led to the deaths of seven students from Assam Engineering College (AEC) and, again, the death of the young girl in Ganeshguri have caused much chaos among the citizens, and so road safety awareness is much needed. In regards to this, the city council has also directed the road safety departments to take proper action.

The Chief Minister has directed the district administration, police, education, and transport departments to urgently convene the heads of all government and private educational institutions to check whether the school buses used to transport students are complying with the strict guidelines issued by the Supreme Court and the National Child Rights Commission Road-Safety stated a press release.
