GUWAHATI: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway raided three shops in two different locations during the last few days to check illegal sale of railway tickets, stated a press release.

The RPF recovered 47 railway e-tickets worth more than Rs. 23,000 on February 21and February 22 during the drive.

In this regard, three persons were arrested and prosecuted under Section 143 of the Railways Act.

Information was received regarding touting activities by a shop namely 'Mallika Colour House', located at Chapatoli in Dibrugarh. On the basis of the information, a CIB team of Tinsukia RPF conducted a decoy check on the said shop by purchasing a Railway e-ticket in the name of one staff. The ticket was generated by the shop owner illegally by using personal ID. As such, a CIB team of Tinsukia RPF and staff of Cyber Cell, Tinsukia conducted a raid and search operation at the shop with the assistance of local police of Bhadoi Panchali. During the course of raid, they recovered 14 Railway e-tickets, worth around Rs 8,117. One Laptop and one mobile handset with two SIMs were also seized during the raid and one person was arrested and taken into custody.

In the other incident, information was received regarding touting activities by two shops located at Naojan in Golaghat. After getting considerable evidence, IPF with officer and staff of RPF, Dimapur conducted a raid and search operation in the two shops, namely 'Ankur Online Digital Service Point' and 'Arunoday Kendra Digital Sewa Common Services Centre', under the supervision of ASC/RPF, Dimapur. During the course of raid, they recovered 21 Railway e-tickets, worth about Rs 8,100 with one mobile phone with SIM card and 12 Railway e-tickets worth about Rs 7,760 with one mobile phone with SIM card respectively. The tickets were generated by the shop owners illegally by using personal ID. All the items found during the raid were seized and both the shop owners were arrested and taken into custody.

RPF of NF Railway keeps a close watch on the touting activity to prevent illegal selling of Railway tickets. Unauthorized carrying on of business of procuring and supplying of railway tickets is a punishable offence under section 143 of the Railways Act.
