GUWAHATI: In keeping with tradition, numerous people thronged various shrines in and around the city on the first day of the New Year, while others visited the Assam State Zoo here. Those who visited the zoo included residents of neighbouring areas and busloads of schoolchildren.
The roads leading to shrines such as Kamakhya Mandir and Ganesh Mandir at Ganeshguri witnessed traffic jams, while the parks in and around the city also saw heavy footfall.
According to most people, today's outing to mark the New Year provided relief for the restrictions they had faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They expressed the hope that 2022 will relieve the stress and difficulties created by COVID-19.
