GUWAHATI: In line with the Gram Swaraj of Mahatma Gandhi and on the auspicious occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the State Bank of India Foundation supported SBI Gram Seva programme implemented by NGOs Assam Centre for Rural Development (ACRD), a programme to launch a booklet of the successes of the programme and to officially hand over the programme to the local community as it completed three years.

The State Bank of India Foundation, the CRS arm of State Bank of India launched the SBI Gram Seva programme in October 2017 for the holistic development of five underdeveloped and remote villages in Baksa district out of total 50 villages covering six States which comes to an end this October. The programme also focused on the convergence of government welfare schemes for the poor and to bring more awareness among the rural communities.

The SBI Gram Seva programme focused on integrated development through major intervention areas such as digitization, connectivity, education, health, hygiene, sanitation, electricity, water conservation, environment, infrastructure and skill development.

On the same day the SBI Foundation under SBI Gram Seva Programme was inaugurated in 5 villages each in Meghalaya, Nagaland and Mizoram, Karnataka and Telangana respectively with the help of NGOs BAKDIL, ANMA, Goodwill Foundation, Sankalp Rural Development Society and Bhavishya Bharat.

Both the handover and inauguration programme was virtually attended by RS Ramesh, CGM, SBI NE Circle and Jayateertha V Jainapura GM(NW-II), CGMs of other Circles, officials of SBI Foundations and other officials of SBI NE Circle. In his speech, Ramesh expressed his happiness for the development under Gram Seva at Baksa, i.e. computer literacy centres, health camps, drinking water, skill training development, community kitchen and also assure that SBI will always be happy to be associate with the development of villages and extend help to villagers for their uplift, a press release said.

The programme has already benefitted more than 3,000 households in the five villages of Baksa, Assam over a period of three years through the various interventions and another 11250 people in those villages will be benefitted in the 15 villages of Meghalaya, Nagaland and Mizoram in coming three years, the release added.
