GUWAHATI: A vibrant display of Assam’s ethnic richness unfolded this evening at the Sri Sri Madhavadeva Auditorium, marking the conclusion of the 6th Workshop of the Assam Ethnic Cultural Harmony & Exchange Mission (AECHEM). Organized by the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra Society, the event brought together participants from the Dalu, Hrangkhol, Zeme Naga, and Tai Khamyang communities, celebrating their unique cultural expressions through music, dance, and storytelling. This workshop was part of Phase II of the AECHEM project, which began on July 8, 2025, following the successful completion of Phase I in 2023. Phase I had involved over 600 youth from 20 different ethnic communities, laying a strong foundation for this ongoing cultural integration initiative. The current phase aims to include 16 more communities and approximately 500 young participants, ensuring broad representation and continued engagement.
At the heart of the initiative lies the vision of a unified and inclusive Assam—‘Bor Asom’—where the diversity of cultures is seen as the state’s greatest strength. The project seeks to nurture cultural pride, preserve indigenous traditions, and foster mutual understanding among Assam’s various ethnic groups. By using performing arts as a medium, AECHEM is reviving traditional knowledge systems and giving young people a platform to connect with their heritage.
The finale event was not just a celebration, but a reaffirmation of Assam’s identity as a mosaic of communities bound by shared values. Colourful costumes, traditional instruments, and expressive performances highlighted the richness of each culture, drawing applause and admiration from a packed audience.
