GUWAHATI: The World Veterinary Day was celebrated following all the COVID-19 protocols at the Directorate campus of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department on Saturday. The programme was jointly organized by the All Assam Veterinary Services Association and Assam Veterinary Council.

The plantation programme was inaugurated by Ashok Kumar Barman, Secretary and Director of the department. A wall magazine was also set up at the Information Building.

The wall magazine was inaugurated by Rajeev Prakash Barua, retired Director, Information & Public Relations, Assam. Participating in the meeting held in the Directorate auditorium, retired Dean, College of Veterinary Science, Dr Rabindra Nath Goswami and Additional Chief Conservator of Forest M.K. Yadav elaborated the importance of the 'World Veterinary Day'.

The first issue of a departmental news magazine titled 'Poshupalon Barta' edited by Veterinary Information Officer Dr Dandeswar Deka was inaugurated by the Commissioner & Secretary of A.H.& Veterinary Deparment, Shyam Jagannathan. In the meeting, a few successful animal rearers of the State as well as some retired officers were felicitated.

On the other hand, a technical seminar titled 'Veterinarian Response to the COVID-19 Crisis' was conducted by Dr Paresh Sarma, retired Deputy Director where Dr Jimi Bora, Senior Manager, Law Section of Aranya, Dr Anindita Mahanta, Assistant Professor, Physiology, AIIMS, and Dr Amitabh Chakraborty, Veterinary Officer participated as the 'Resource Persons'.

Mentionably, the World Veterinary Day has been celebrated across the State with many functions including drives on plantation, and felicitation to retired officers among others following the COVID-19 protocols, stated a release.
