GUWAHATI: In a bid to make Guwahati cleaner and greener, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has rolled out a special cleanliness drive titled ‘Guwahati Swachhata Abhiyan.’ The campaign, which will run until March 15, 2025, aims to improve sanitation, enhance waste management, and create awareness about maintaining hygiene across the city.
The cleanliness drive has been strategically divided into six zones to ensure thorough implementation. Each zone en-compasses multiple areas, including major roads, residential colonies, bylanes, parks, and marketplaces.
Zone 1 focuses on key religious and residential areas, including Kamakhya Temple to Kalipur Ashram, along with sur-rounding roads and bylanes. The drive aims to address cleanliness and drainage issues in these localities.
Zone 2 covers prominent urban areas such as Krishna Nagar, the Chandmari Police Station area, East Sarania, etc., ex-tending to industrial zones and residential neighbourhoods. Efforts will be directed towards maintaining cleanliness in public spaces and improving waste management systems.
Zone 4 includes busy commercial and residential areas with multiple bylanes and roads that require systematic clean-ing and drainage maintenance. M.A. Road, Bylane 1 and Bylane 2, Krishna Mandir Path, etc., fall under this zone. This zone also covers schools and other public facilities to promote hygiene awareness.
Zone 5 focuses on road networks, connecting lanes, and residential pockets such as Basistha-Borpathar Road and Hem Baruah Path, etc. The GMC plans to address both cleanliness and green space management in this zone.
Zone 6 targets densely populated residential areas, including Nijorapara, Gakhir Chowk, nearby hospital roads, and other roads.
The GMC has urged residents to actively participate and cooperate in the campaign to make Guwahati a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable city.
