MUMBAI: The legendary actor Sameer Khakhar, best known for his roles in TV series like Nukkad, passed away on Wednesday, informed his brother Ganesh Khakhar.

According to a source, Sameer also had urinary and respiratory problems. He was 71.

Ganesh Khakhar informed that, veteran actor Sameer Khakhar, best known for his work in TV shows like Circus and Nukkad, passed suddenly on Wednesday at the age of 71 from multiple organ failure.

"He had breathing problems, then he fell asleep and lost consciousness. The doctor advised us to admit him to the hospital when we contacted him. He also had trouble with his urinary system and his heart. He was maintained on a ventilator, and at 4:30 this morning he finally passed out.”, he stated.

The report further stated that Sameer Khakhar passed away at the MM Hospital in Borivali, Bombay, where he had been admitted. According to reports, Sameer's funeral would take place at Babhai Naka Crematorium in Borivali on Wednesday morning.

Hansal Mehta, a filmmaker, paid tribute to Sameer by sharing images of him on Twitter. He explained, "For some reason, I was given the nickname Khopdi in college after his well-known Nukkad persona. My oldest and closest friends still refer to me as Khopdi. But I suppose it's time to bid the OG farewell. Farewell, Sameer Khakhar. I appreciate the recollections.”

Sameer was part of several programs including Nukkad, Manorajan, Circus, Naya Nukkad, Shrimaan Shrimati, and Adaalat.

He was recently seen in Sanjivani with co-stars Surbhi Chandna and Namit Khanna. He was well-known in Gujarati theater as well.

Sameer Khakhar, who is well known for his portrayal of Khopdi in the movie Nukkad, stated in a 2021 interview that he was searching for excellent jobs because he claimed they had stopped coming his way.

He stated in an interview he stated that "I don't want to sound depressed by saying that I'm not happy with the way things are right now. Nonetheless, I sincerely hope that I am able to find the volume of work I am seeking. I can't wait to face the camera."
