Manipur: Car Thieves Caught Red-Handed With Stolen Vehicle

IMPHAL: On Tuesday, a senior official with Manipur Police mentioned that two car thieves were caught in the act while driving a stolen Mahindra Bolero from Imphal to the Churachandpur area of Manipur.

A joint team of the Bishnupur police and Nambol police station initiated the operation based on intelligence reports that some unidentified individuals had stolen a Bolero car belonging to an owner from Keinou Bazaar, the officer said.

The officer reported that a Mahindra Bolero was stopped at a regular checkpoint in Bishnupur at around 4 a.m. on Tuesday during an operation that was being overseen by the Superintendent of Police for the Bishnupur District, M. Herojit.

The police determined that the seized vehicle was taken from a location in Sagolband in Manipur's Imphal West district after questioning each of them separately in the preliminary stages, the officer claimed.

The officer claimed that the arrests and car confiscation occurred as they were taking the Bolero from Imphal to the Churachandpur district headquarters. The officer revealed that one more white automobile was recovered after their additional questioning and their arrest.

They were found to be in possession of a large number of random documents, including Aadhar cards, licenses, SIM cards, and two mobile phones. Linkhomang Haokip, 37, a resident of New Boljang village in the Churachandpur district, and K. Saithalien, 34, a resident of Khamelok village in the Senapati district of Manipur, were later identified as the two arrested vehicle lifters. "The two recovered vehicles have been given to the Nambol Police Station for legal proceedings," the officer continued.

A Myanmarese couple that the Manipur Police claimed had entered India illegally in December has been detained. The couple had been staying at the home of a local Christian missionary since early March, and he was also detained.
