On Thursday 20 January the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced a list of 276 films expected for the category of the Best picture in Oscars 2022.

The list in the best picture race includes the most loved films as expected such as the West Side Story and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

It is good news for Indian actress Priyanka Chopra as her American science fiction film 'The Matrix Resurrections' has been added to the list of best picture races in Oscars 2022.

The Matrix Resurrections, directed and written by Lana Wachowski had its theatrical release on 22 December last year and soon became fan's favourite with a 140.8 million dollar box office collection. It was also made available to watch on HBO Max.

The film fourth instalment united the iconic lead paring casts such as Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Neil Patrick Harris, Jonathan Groff, Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss alongside Jessica Henwick.

The Matrix Resurrections is Priyanka Chopra's 2nd film to make a place on the Oscars list as earlier the crime drama film The White Tiger (2021) became her first movie to make it to the Oscars.

Apart from the Matrix Resurrection other major films included in the list of Best Picture race in Oscars this year are sports drama 'King Richard', musical romance 'West Side Story', action-adventure Spider-Man: No Way Home, Revisionist Western film 'The Harder They Fall', action fantasy 'Shang-Chi', psychological western drama 'The Power of the Dog', crime drama 'House of Gucci', The Legend Of The Ten Rings, Spencer and Passing and others.

Jai Bhim starring south star Suriya has been named eligible for the international film along with other films such as The Hand of God, Titane and Drive My Car.

The nomination voting for the best picture race is said to start from 1 February 2022 and it is informed that the nominations will be finally announced after 8 days of voting i.e. on 8 February 2022. The upcoming 94th Academy Awards are scheduled to be held on 27 March 2022.
