War against COVID-19: Akshay Kumar donates Rs. 25 crore to the PM’s Fund

Mumbai : Popular actor Akshay Kumar has, on Saturday donated Rs. 25 crore to the PM Narendra Modi's newly created PM CARES Fund. The Prime Minister has created the fund to strengthen the country's ongoing war against the COVID-19 pandemic and sought help from the economically sound citizens. Responding to the PM's call actor Kumar, who earlier extended his full support to the 21-day-long nationwide lockdown imposed by the Union Government to tackle novel coronavirus menace, said that he pledged this huge sum of money to the Fund so that the country could strongly fight the war. He urged all people, who can afford, to provide monetary help to the fight. “Now our country, along with the world has waged a war against a deadly virus. It is a very crucial time for all of us”, said the actor, who is believed to be a staunch supporter of PM Modi. The actor’s benevolence has been lauded by many. Meanwhile, some well-known personalities of the country including former Indian cricket team skipper master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, sprinter Hima Das, among others extended monetary help to the government for strengthening the fight against novel coronavirus which created havoc almost the globe. Moreover, the Tata Trusts pledged a huge sum of money for the same cause. On the other hand, 19 people died in the pandemic and more than eight hundred people have been infected by the dreaded virus in the country so far.
