2 arrested for sexual harassment in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Two persons have been arrested for allegedly sexually harassing an 18-year-old girl.

According to police sources, the girl, who hails from Roumari in Tezpur, befriended Aminul Islam in Guwahati over phone. During their telephonic conversations, Islam kept luring her to come to Guwahati, claiming that she would find many good jobs here. With the dream of getting a job here, the girl decided to come to Guwahati. On Friday evening, she reached the city and met Islam at Jalukbari. Islam took her to an under-construction building at Bamunpara, Bank Colony. There, Islam and another person named Abu Abdullah, allegedly sexually harassed the girl. The victim girl somehow managed to escape from there in the wee hours of Saturday. She then approached the Basistha Police for help. The police arrested both accused on Saturday night and registered a case (1062/22). Investigation is on.
