70,744 People Affected By Flood In Kamrup (Metro)

GUWAHATI: The raging Brahmaputra waters unleashed its fury in the State and had been causing immeasurable chaos since the past few days. Although the situation turned slightly better on Wednesday with the water level receding a tad bit, the overall flood situation remains about the same with the water still flowing above the danger level.

According to a Water Resource Department source, the water level is at 51.07 meter as on Wednesday at 5 pm, which is a slight drop from the 51.23 meter recorded at 5 pm on Tuesday and the water will take a few days more to dry down.

There are five Revenue Circles under Kamrup (Metro). In the Guwahati Revenue Circle 6 villages are inundated with water, in the Sonapur Revenue Circle 11 villages are inundated with water, in the Chandrapur Revenue Circle 26 villages are inundated with water, in the Azara Revenue Circle 4 villages are inundated with water, and in the Dispur Revenue Circle 3 villages are inundated with water.

Around 70,744 people were affected by the flood in the State. In Sonapur area, the residents have taken temporary shelter on the embankments at Maloibari, Posutoli, Borbila and Digaru. In Narengi and Chandrapur, people have taken temporary shelter on the main road. Among the lives lost, a 13 year old boy, Hardin Das from No2 Ouzari of Dimoria district was washed away and drowned at Kollong River.
