GUWAHATI: The founding members of the AAASA (All Assam Adivasi Students' Association) and other Adivasi leaders and social workers formed a new organization named Asom Adivasi Sanmilan (AAS) to keep a close watch on the socio-economic, political and non-political issues concerning the Adivasis of the state.

Talking to The Sentinel today, AAS general secretary David Horo said, "We formed the AAS on October 11 at a meeting in Guwahati with former MP Santiuse Kujur as president, Rachael Kujur as working president, Latatiru Langkra Bonkor Antony and Prem Hachhdak as vice presidents. This organization will work as the guardian body for the Adivasis. It will look after socio-economic, political and non-political issues concerning the Adivasis. It will also put pressure on the government on various demands of the Adivasis. Unification of the divided students' union of the Adivasis in the state is one of the aims of this organization." Horo said, "We welcome the recently-singed peace accord with Adisavi militant organizations by the government. We will felicitate the leaders of the Adivasi insurgent organizations in October-end for joining the mainstream of society."
