GUWAHATI: The Supreme Court granted bail to suspended Assam Police DIG (Border) Rounak Ali Hazarika with two sureties, amounting to Rs 10 lakh, yesterday.

The Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell arrested Hazarika in a case of possessing property disproportionate to his known sources of income last year. The department had suspended him on the charge of going on frequent foreign tours without permission before his arrest. Finding Hazarika's assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell filed a case against him. The case led to his arrest.

The vigilance cell found in its inquiry that Hazarika possessed immovable and movable assets, which was 164.80 per cent disproportionate to his known sources of income during 1992-2021. The cell also found that Hazarika incurred expenditures of Rs 1,74,12,974 as educational expenditures for his two children.
