GUWAHATI: The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) has decided to withdraw Alternative English from the MIL group from the 2021-22 academic session.

Talking to The Sentinel in this regard, AHSEC deputy secretary (Academic) Anurupa Choudhury said that a meeting was held between the AHSEC, All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) on February 8, 2020 where many important issues were discussed. It was in this meeting that the decision was taken to withdraw Alternative English from the MIL group.

"AHSEC has decided to implement this decision from the new academic session 2021-22," said Choudhury.

Students who will be taking admission in Class XI for the 2021-22 academic session will now have to take any one of the MIL subjects as core subject along with the General English subject. At present, there are 11 subjects in the MIL group - Assamese, Bodo, Bengali, Hindi, Manipuri, Nepali, Urdu, Garo, Khasi, Mizo and Hmar.
