GUWAHATI: The officeholders of the Anusuchita Jati Yuba Chatra Parishad Asom (AJYCPA) mentioned that many undeserving people have managed to get Scheduled Caste (SC) certificates using the Mission Bhumiputra launched by the state government.

They alleged that the Mission Bhumiputra portal had many errors and problems that had allowed many undeserving people to obtain SC status using fake documents. According to the rules of the state government, paternal or ancestral documents can be used to apply for the certificates. But the system has been misused by non-SC people to use the benefits, leading to the generation of more than one lakh fake certificates under Mission Bhumiputra.

AJYCPA called for the use of the 1951 NRC or 1950, 1966, and 1971 caste-based census reports as the basis for giving SC certificates to avoid problems for the genuine people who need the reservation.

They also alleged that the decision taken by the state cabinet on January 12 regarding the removal of consequential seniority reservation for people in reserved posts would prevent the officials from getting their due benefits and was discriminatory towards the SCs as well as a violation of the constitution. Hence, the state government should reconsider this decision. AJYCPA also mentioned that the 2023-24 state budget did not have anything special for the SC people of the state. Although money was allocated for social justice and empowerment, it was not for the direct benefit of the SCs mentioned by AJYCPA president Rubul Das and general secretary Jitu Kakati.
