GUWAHATI: The members of the Anusuchit Jati Yuba Chatra Parishad, Asom (AJYCPA), staged a protest at Chachal in Guwahati on Monday. They displayed placards speaking against the state government and accusing them of neglecting the reserved classes. They also mentioned that the state government is not taking ample steps for the benefit of the over 40 lakh people of the scheduled castes and demanded the immediate termination of Mission Bhumiputra.
They also mentioned that with the reservation of the Barpeta and Naoboicha for the SC, those in power have put them in direct conflict in the Muslim-dominated areas. They added that the SC scholarships are also not regularly deposited in the accounts of students and demanded that the scholarship amount be doubled and regularized. They added that even after carrying out protests on April 27 and August 22, the state government has not paid heed to their demands.
The protesters added that the state government had given out a total of 290055 SC certificates under Mission Bhumiputra, but there had been serious lapses in the process and undeserving people misused the loopholes in the system. In light of such discrepancies, they demanded that the process of allocating certificates for such reservations be done based on voter lists and caste-based censuses. And added that the candidates from these communities be given the benefits in terms of their promotions in government jobs.
