GUWAHATI: The All Assam Secondary Additional Teachers’ Association (Contractual) said that the Directorate of Secondary Education has degraded the dignity of 'almost regular additional teachers' by not providing them with all the facilities mentioned in the office memorandum.
The president of the association, Mahidhar Kalita, said, "The government appointed the additional teachers on the basis of merit through tests in science, mathematics, English and social science in 2010, with at least three teachers in each school. After our repeated demand for the regularization of our jobs, in July 2020, the government ensured our jobs until we reached the age of 60 and published an office memorandum to this effect. The office memorandum clearly spells out the facilities like CPF (contributory provident fund), providing service books, inclusion in the National Pension Scheme, death benefits, etc. However, due to a lack of interest in the matter on the part of the Directorate of Secondary Education, we have all along been deprived of all these facilities."
Drawing a contrast with the BTC administration, the Kalita said, "The BTC administration appointed such additional teachers on a contractual basis in 2012, two years later than us. However, the last BTC administration regularized the posts of those additional teachers. However, the Directorate of Secondary Education has not even given us all the facilities mentioned in the office memorandum, let alone regularizing our posts."
Kalita further said, "The Directorate did keep some posts reserved for the additional teachers. However, it has started fresh recruitment for the filling of the vacant reserved posts. We demand intervention from the Chief Minister in the matter."
