GUWAHATI: The Assam Electronics Development Corporation (AMTRON) will achieve a new milestone with the launch of the 'AMTRON Drone School' at the Tech City in Boragaon here on August 9 by Assam's Information Technology Minister Keshab Mahanta.

AMTRON initiated the proposal to set up the first DGCA authorized Drone Pilot Training School in the Tech City and received the approval of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for starting the Remote Pilot Training School in July last. With Wednesday's launch, the North-East is going to get its first Remote Pilot Training School, thus, marking a new era in education combined with technology. The opening of such schools will open up new avenues for the youth of the North-East, providing them with a vision to use this technology for the betterment of society. As with any other technology, Drone Technology will provide a plethora of opportunities for the youth of the North-East, since they will be trained by the best in the industry. Joining hands in the venture as its training partner is EduRade, a Government of India-recognized start-up incubated at IIT Guwahati and IIM Calcutta Innovation Park, which has trained numerous youths on emerging technologies in premier institutions including IITs and NITs. It boasts of having several trainers who are certified by DGCA to conduct the Drone Pilot License Training Programme.

The first DGCA-approved drone training school in the country was inaugurated in Haryana in 2021, and so far there are 23 Drone Schools registered in the country.

Now with the opening of this school in Guwahati, Assam finds its place in the drone map of India.

For the school, AMTRON has acquired two micro category (2 kg and

below) and two small category (2-25 kg) indigenous drones. Further, two model agri drones (small category 2-25 kg) for agricultural purposes would be soon assembled at the Tech City. The project is being handled as a part of the Tech City Project.
