Anganwadi workers threaten to undertake further protests if their demands are not fulfilled

GUWAHATI: As the non-cooperation protest of the Assam State Anganwadi Workers-Assistants’ Union continued for its 9th day on Wednesday across 31 districts of the state, the protesters threatened to take their protest to the Directorate of Women and Child Development if their demands were not met by October 14.

The Anganwadi workers and assistants, as well as the Mini workers from across the state, are protesting in front of the Women & Child Development offices in each district in favour of their demands, which include the increment of their remuneration to Rs 12000, payment of the one-time payment to the retired workers by October 20, payment of gratuity, and regularisation of their jobs, among many others. Along with the rest of the state, over 400 members of the association staged a protest at the district Women and Child Development office located in Beltola, Guwahati. CITU general secretary Tapan Sharma, state vice presidents Biren Sharma and Pratul Barman, Assam Construction Workers’ Union working president Badan Bhuyan, and several other people took part in the protest as they expressed their support for the Anganwadi workers.

The Assam State Anganwadi Workers-Assistants’ Union, which is affiliated with the CITU, called for a non-cooperation protest from October 3 to October 31. The members mentioned that the officials of the department have tried to disrupt their democratic protests in various ways by spreading lies and trying to break their mental strength. And thereafter, they went on to threaten that if the government does not discuss the problems and find solutions for them by October 14, they will be taking up their protests in front of the office of the Director of Women and Child Development from October 16 onwards.
