Crime branch compiles list of high-profile people associated with cricket betting racket

GUWAHATI: The three high-profile gamblers who were arrested on Monday by the Guwahati Police, Crime Branch, were remanded to two-day police custody by the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) on Tuesday.

Guwahati Police, Crime Branch launched an operation in Guwahati from Monday night and busted an Indian Premier League (IPL) betting racket. Police arrested three gamblers. They have been identified as Dipesh Bajoria, Raunak Bajoria and Rajesh Jain. The trio was allegedly operating a cricket betting racket across the State. Sources also informed that the Crime Branch, based on the arrested gamblers' confessions, has compiled a list containing the names of many high profile people who are allegedly associated with the cricket betting nexus operating in the State.

The Crime Branch has also seized mobile phones and many objectionable documents from the possession of the arrested trio. A case has been registered (12/2012) u/s 120 B/420 IPC R/W Section 13 and 14 of the Assam Game and Betting Act, 1970.
