GUWAHATI: The APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) has made social media activities of its ticket aspirants as one of the criteria for candidature for the Assembly election.

On August 29, 2020 the party did issue a notice for seeking application from eligible party members who intend to contest the forthcoming Assembly election in the State as INC candidates. Since then many ticket aspirants submitted their applications at Rajiv Bhawan. Among the details of 18 points sought by the party in the application form, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter IDs and number of followers have also been sought.

When asked on this, APCCgeneral secretary (organization) Ranjan Bora said, "Social media activities of a candidate do speak about his social engagement digitally. The number of his followers of his page also speaks about his popularity as a political leader. The number of followers of any poplar person is always high. However, this won't be the sole criterion for the selection of party candidates.

"We've a number of popular leaders who aren't active in the social media. Even some of them may not be technically strong in the use of endroid mobile or computer."
