GUWAHATI: Better late than never – the electric cremator project at the Ramkrishna Mission Path at Ulubari in Guwahati is set to be inaugurated within a day or two. The power cremator with two furnaces burning two bodies simultaneously is going to be opened at a time when there has been a hue and cry among the public over the cremation of COVID-19 deceased's bodies.

This GMDA (Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority) project is of 2016. According to GMDA sources, it's a 100 per cent power-based cremation that takes a minute to char a body of one kg. Thus to char a body of 60 kg into ashes, it takes about an hour, the sources and, and added that there is provision for the ritualistic collection of the charred bones.

The electric cremator has been installed by a Chandigarh-based company that has already trained people here to operate the machine through video conferencing. GMDA sources claim that the crematorium is 100 per cent pollution free and the smoke comes out after being refined.
