Assam Finance Department To Provide Cash For Utensils & Cloths To Flood Victims

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The State Revenue & Disaster Management department has moved the Finance department seeking funds to the tune of Rs 60 crore to provide monetary relief to flood victims to purchase cloths and utensils. Even though the Assam Disaster Management Manual, 2015, prescribes utensils and cloths for the flood-affected people, the victims have never received such relief. In July this year, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that those staying in designated relief camps as well as those marooned and living in camp-like situation would be given Rs 3,800 each for purchasing these items. The payment would be made through direct benefit transfer.

The Revenue & Disaster Management department has estimated that Rs 60 crore would be required to provide such monetary relief to flood victims. The department has approached the Finance department to earmark and sanction the amount. The Deputy Commissioners of the districts have been asked to prepare a list of beneficiaries as per guidelines of the State Disaster Response Fund. DCs will transfer Rs 3,800 for purchase of utensils and cloths to the bank account of the head of the flood-affected families.
