Assam Government asks Revenue & Disaster Management to examine on eksonia land

GUWAHATI: The State Government has asked the Revenue & Disaster Management department to examine various legal aspects and offer suggestions whether eksonia land could be transferable or heritable. The government’s directive has come after it observed that many indigenous people possessing such land are faced with difficulties in transferring the same. Eksonia means Annual Patta. As per the existing laws eksonia land holder has only possessory rights. Same is not legally transferable or heritable. The government can take back the land any time even from the original allottee. No legal right is created by purchase of such land. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has already issued instruction in this regard.
