GUWAHATI: The State government owes Rs 123,90,85,125 to 1,027 retired employees of the ASTC (Assam State Transport Corporation) till January 2021.

Meanwhile, the government has allocated Rs 488.74 crore to the Transport department in the Budget placed on the floors of the State Assembly on July 16. Hence, those ASTC retired employees who are yet to get their dues from the government are expecting that they would be paid the pending amount from the amount allocated to the department.

Talking to The Sentinel, a retired employee of the Corporation said, "Since January 2015, the State government owes an aggregate amount of Rs 123,90,85,125 to 1,027 retired employees of the ASTC.

"Of this pending amount, Rs 58,15,05,809 is on the head of gratuity; Rs 29,86,60,014 is for ULs (unutilized leaves); Rs 36,29,19,303 as CPF (PA)."

He added, "The government assured us that it will release Rs 119 crore for paying the dues to the retired employees of ASTC. This money would be allocated in the Budget, stated the authorities concerned during various discussions at different levels earlier.

"Since the government has already allocated Rs 488.74 crore to the Transport department in the present Budget, we hope that our dues would be paid from that amount.
