GUWAHATI: The State Government has sanctioned an amount of over Rs 9.20 crore as assistance under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for families affected by drought during 2021.

It is pertinent to mention that a drought-like situation had affected numerous farmers in the Golaghat district in 2021. Consequently, the Agriculture Department had moved the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) for sanctioning of funds to provide assistance to the affected farmers under SDRF.

Recently, the Chief Secretary of Assam chaired a meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) of ASDMA, which sanctioned financial assistance of Rs 9,20,66,536 for 25,770 drought-affected families in the Golaghat district.

It may be mentioned that the State experienced less rainfall between July-end and August in 2022 as well, and 34,521.5 hectare of agricultural land was affected by drought-like conditions in the Nagaon, Nalbari, Cachar, Kamrup and Golaghat districts. Altogether, the xali crops of 59,360 farmers' families across 1,234 villages were affected by scarcity of water.

The Agriculture Department has moved the ASDMA for sanctioning of funds to provide assistance to these 59,360 farmers' families as well.
