GUWAHATI: Thirty-seven years after the six-year long Assam Agitation came to an end with signing of the Assam Accord in 1985, the State Government has now taken a policy decision to make a movie on the historic movement.

The Implementation of Assam Accord Department has taken the initial steps for producing the movie and a meeting was held with the officials concerned on Tuesday evening by the departmental Minister, Atul Bora. According to sources in the department, the Government is going to constitute a committee to prepare the draft script of the movie, with a view to preventing any distortion of the sensitive theme. Although the composition of the proposed committee has not been finalized yet, the sources said that it will include members of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU), which had spearheaded the agitation.

The aim of the movie is to dispel ignorance about the event among the younger generation, the sources said.

It may be mentioned that 860 persons were martyred during the agitation.
